Check trail closures before heading uphill
The National Park Service lists Bullhead Trail as closed Mondays through Thursdays, except federal holidays, through November 19, 2026, for rehabilitation. Laurel Falls Trail is also closed for rehabilitation; NPS currently anticipates reopening sometime in 2027.
Hurricane Helene damage also affects hiking plans: Big Creek Trail is open only for its first two miles, ending at Mouse Creek Falls. Caldwell Fork, Gunter Fork and Swallow Fork trails are closed. These are dated NPS advisories, not live trail-status updates. Check the official closure list immediately before traveling.

Park parking tag and fees
A tag does not reserve a space. Confirm the current rule before you count on a trailhead.
Major traffic on the state roads
US-441, Veterans Blvd and the Parkway backups are a town problem, not a park problem.

If downtown is the plan, check city parking before circling the Parkway.
Pigeon Forge events that change traffic
A parade, race or festival on the Parkway can wipe out an otherwise good downtown loop.

Confirm whether downtown is hosting something that fills lots early.

Ticketed parks set their own hours and weather calls. Recheck the day you hold tickets.

Only useful if it is running the route you need.
